Reading Notes: The Monkey King Sun Wu Kong: Part B

(Sun Wu Kong by Lone Lanrete)

Notscha, Son of Li Dsing by R Wilhelm and translated by Frederick H. Martens:

Characters: Monkey King Sun Wu Kong, Prince Notscha, Li Dsing

Sun Wu Kong: feeling pretty mad because he went back home. Feels disrespected by everyone in heaven because he was tasked with just watching the horses. He came home and is now being hunted

Prince Notscha: The son of Li Dsing. Tasked with bringing the Monkey King in to be imprisoned in heaven.

Evening Star: Advisor to the Lord of the Heavens. Wants to placate Sun Wu Kong.

Plot: Sun Wu Kong is chilling at his old kingdom. The Lord of the Heavens learns about what happened with Sun Wu Kong declaring himself equal tot he heavens and leaving Heaven because he felt like the position he received was below him. The Lord of the Heavens sends Li Dsing and his little son Notscha. When htey get to Sun Wu Kong's palace, the Monkey King sees them and calls Notscha a smol boi. Notscha feels embarrassed so he decides to fight him. Sun Wu Kong taunts him and then Notscha transforms into something more powerful. The Monkey King matches this and they begin fighting. They are perfectly matched and Sun Wu Kong grows tired of this and uses one of his clones to distract Notscha as he hits him with a stick. Notscha, being bested, runs back to his dad and says Sun Wu Kong is too powerful. They go to the Lord of the Heavens and tell him the news. He decides that they need to do something new as no one ca defeat Sun Wu Kong. Evening Star is called up to propose an idea. The idea is that they are going to appease the Monkey King and give him a hollow title so that he's happy to recognize, but doesn't have to actually do anything so he won't mess anything up. Evening Star goes to

Setting: Sun Wu Kong's Palace, Heavens

What I Could Change: I think story is one of the ones that shouldn't be changed to first person. Li Dsing doesn't really do much in this story so maybe Sun Wu Kong could be taking both of them on at the same time, especially since he can clone himself.

Extra Credit Reading Notes: Overview of Mythology Crash Course

( Fountain Pen Writing by Petar Milosevic)   For this week's extra reading. I watched the crash course Overview of Mythology videos .  First Video: What is Myth? So this episode was a lot of groundwork to lay out how they're going to be talking about myth. Such as how religion and myth can be a blurry distinction. They're going to treat myth as a collection of stories passed down over time. 'Myth' also has a problem as a word because the myth is generally understood as something that is untrue. 'Myth' comes from the word mythos which is a story.  The actual story discussed was the story of Persephone. She is trapped in hades for 6 months of the year. One month for each pomegranate seed she ate in Hades. This myth explains the seasons because when Persephone is out of Hades there is good weather and growing plants, but otherwise, the world is dying (winter). They want to focus first on creation myths, then pantheons, and finally destruction myths.  Second Vi...
