Reading Notes: King Arthur: Part B

(Teardrop Lake by Paul Harrop)

The End of Arthur by Andrew Lang:

Characters: King Arthur, Sir Bedivire, Sir Lancelot

King Arthur: Has been mortally wounded. wants to get rid of Excalibur

Sir Bedivire: Is crying because he thinks King Arthur is gonna die. Is kind of weak of heart.

Sir Lancelot: Is sad that he can not keep seeing his love affair because her husband died and she became a nun.

Plot: King Arthur has been mortally wounded and is actively dying on the battlefield. Sir Bedivire is there and crying over his dying body. King Arthur asks him to throw his magic sword, Excalibur, into the water. He agrees and takes the sword to the water. When he gets there, he looks at the sword and sees all of the gems and jewels. He thinks about how it would be a shame for it to be thrown into a lake, so he hides it away and returns to the King. The King knows he hasn't done it though because he asked him to describe what had happened when he threw it in. He tells Sir Bedivire to once again go and throw the sword into the water. He goes again, but again he is unable to throw it in. He again goes to Arthur and again he sends him back. Finally, he actually does ti and a hand reaches out and catches the sword and pulls it under. He tells the King what happened and then is told to take the King to the water. When they get there, there's a barge full of crying women and Sir Bedivire puts King Arthur in there. He later dies. The Queen learns of the King's death and runs away to become a nun and dies as one. Her affair lover, Sir Lancelot, tries to contact her, but she turns him away and Lancelot stops eating and eventually dies.

Setting: After a battle and over the course of a few years.

Things I can Change: I think the ending presented in this version of the story is really sad. I think I would try to find a way to make it a bit happier.

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

I think the feedback I've been receiving has been pretty good. The better ones are definitely from the 150-word assignments where people use the WWW or TAG method. Storytelling has never been my strong suit so the class has been helpful for me.  I hope the comments I've been leaving have been useful. I try to focus more on any questions that the reading has left me with. Things like questioning why people did what they did. I like the WWW feedback method the most. Mostly because it's really easy to remember,  The intro posts have been an alright way to get to know people. I think it's definitely less of a connection than being physically together for a couple hours every week. For an all online class though I think it works. I think with feedback, a lot of people are scared of being harsh or mean, so they may not give feedback fully. I think I need to read more critically because I definitely also do this. Extra Credit Reading Notes: Overview of Mythology Crash Course

( Fountain Pen Writing by Petar Milosevic)   For this week's extra reading. I watched the crash course Overview of Mythology videos .  First Video: What is Myth? So this episode was a lot of groundwork to lay out how they're going to be talking about myth. Such as how religion and myth can be a blurry distinction. They're going to treat myth as a collection of stories passed down over time. 'Myth' also has a problem as a word because the myth is generally understood as something that is untrue. 'Myth' comes from the word mythos which is a story.  The actual story discussed was the story of Persephone. She is trapped in hades for 6 months of the year. One month for each pomegranate seed she ate in Hades. This myth explains the seasons because when Persephone is out of Hades there is good weather and growing plants, but otherwise, the world is dying (winter). They want to focus first on creation myths, then pantheons, and finally destruction myths.  Second Vi...
